My conversation with Jesus

Many times when I am troubled or confused, I find comfort in sitting in my back yard and having a scotch and soda along with a quiet conversation with Jesus. This happened to me just last week, after a particularly difficult day. I said, "Jesus, why do I work so hard?"

And I heard the reply: "Men find many ways to demonstrate the love they have for their family. You work hard to have a peaceful, beautiful place for your friends and family to gather."

I said: "I thought that money was the root of all evil." And the reply was: "No, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Money is a tool; it can be used for good or bad."

I was starting to feel better, but I still had that one burning question, so I asked it. "Jesus," I said, "what is the meaning of life? Why am I here?"

He replied: "That is a question many men ask. The answer is in your heart and is different for everyone. I would love to chat with you some more, seƱor, but for now I have to finish your lawn."

Haven't blogged much, but here's something funny I found on a forum I frequent:

Last week I purchased a burger and fries at McDonalds for $3.58. The counter girl took my $4.00 and I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies. While looking at the screen on her register, I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried. Why do I tell you this; because of the evolution in teaching math since the 1960's...

Teaching Math In 1960
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In 1970
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In 1980
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?

Teaching Math In 1990
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

Teaching Math In 2000
A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers.)

Un ranchero vende una carretera de madera para $100. El
cuesto de la produccion era $80. Cuantos tortillas se puede
comprar?

Woah, I just realized haven't updated for almost 6 months.  Let's see what's changed in that period:

-Promotion, woohoo
-New job that requires me to be oncall 7x24 this week
-Went on vacation to Belize
-Regret not buying a 1996 bottle of Dom Perignon for $80 ($379 @Bevmo) while at the Belize Airport.
-Shaved my head (heard girls dig it)
-Grew it back (didn't work out as planned)

Nothing else worth reporting...

I arrived home Thursday night from my 4 day business trip in Orlando. According to my itinerary each flight was supposed to take 4.5 hours.  It took 6 and 8 hours each way respectively .  I didn't get back to LA until 12 midnight and still had to go to work the following morning.  Thats work 9 days in a row.  I didn't understand why they didn't just give me Friday off so I could spend the weekend exploring Florida.  Ah well, life goes on...

Some pics of my snazzy hotel room and cool cars from the LA Autoshow pics I had forgotten about in my camera:

Hypocrisy.

Everyone is prone it.  Sometimes despite our own realization of it,  we fail to ascertain it's fallible nature...

Edit:

Fuck me sideways for being so sappy but I've never came upon a passage with so much wisdom/meaning.  It's really something I should really start living by:

Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. --Corinthians 13:4-7
